Therapy

  • Therapy begins with an intake session that includes an assessment of your needs and is used to tailor therapy approaches. 

  • For clients with anxiety, depression, relationship problems or other issues, we provide evidenced based therapy to promote mental wellness and life balance.

  • Common therapy approaches used:

    • Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT)​

    • Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT)

    • Mindfulness

    • Interpersonal Processing Therapy (IPT)

    • Seeking Safety (SS​)

Psychological Therapy Overview
Individual Therapy

Individual therapy typically last 45 minutes per session, often 1 time per week, but sometimes more or less depending on your needs and as discussed with your therapist. â€‹â€‹

Therapy may address a variety of mental health and psychological topics including:

  • depression

  •  anxiety,

  • trauma, stress-management (e.g., school and work stress/burnout),

  • life transitions (e.g., move, new job),

  • parenting,

  • relationship and family issues,

  • racial and historical trauma,  gendered-racism,

  • power and gender based violence,

  • LGBT and women’s issues.

Therapy is an empathetic and collaborative collaborative process,  provided in a safe and brave space for you to address psychological and environmental distress. Research and theory based interventions including CBT and DBT are used to meet your unique needs. Together, you work with a therapist to develop coping strategies that reduce mental health symptoms, help you reach your potential, and enhance your well-being.

Group Therapy

Group therapy is time limited, lasting for 6 to 8 sessions (meet 1 time per week for 50 minutes). Groups consist of 4-8 members who meet about a specific psychology or mental health topic (e.g., depression, anxiety).

Groups are facilitated by one or two therapists. Group members grow from the shared experience of other group members and the information and reflections provided by therapists. 

​

The following therapy groups are offered: 

  • Depression

  • Anxiety

  • Stress/burnout

  • Redefining strength and support for the "Strong Black Woman"

​

*If you have an interest to participate in another type of therapy group, at your request, and the interests of other participants, additional therapy groups may be added.
